When I talk to my clients about social media, the reactions are all over the map. Some love it and use it, some groan, and some just admit that they are confused by it. But social media is an important part of building your transformational business, so you’ll want to put it on your ‘must do’ list of business activities.

Here are some tips to make it easier:

  1. Remember that it’s social first. Seek to connect with people, be helpful and friendly. Just like relating to people off-line, a helpful, cheerful attitude makes people remember you – in a good way.
  2. Contribute to and comment on other people’s posts. In Facebook, this is a comment. In Twitter, you can re-tweet (RT), or pass on what others have said, with a comment if you have the space. This is just good etiquette. Some helpful resources for understanding social media etiquette are http://tinyurl.com/ylhrp2c and http://tinyurl.com/y4l98nd.
  3. Use social media to post information about your events. You can create an event on Facebook, and send a notice about it to your friends. You can use Twitter to tweet a link to a sign-up page for a teleclass or program, and you can send an invitation using Linkedin to any event.
  4. Set a time limit, such as 10 minutes once or twice a day to get on, check what’s happening, and post and contribute. Spending hours and hours on social media, unless it’s your specialty, can interfere with your other business activities.
  5. Set up an automatic feed from your blog posts to social media, so your information automatically gets shared without you doing it manually.
  6. You can set up automated posts, or have your VA or assistant do this, so you maintain a constant presence with things such as inspirational quotes, links to your or other’s blog articles or videos, or other helpful tips. It takes some of the pressure off if regular posts are coming from an automated source. To set up automated posts, use FutureTweets.com, Hootsuite.com, SocialOomph.com, just to name a few. You’ll still get on and post personally, but this expands your influence (and perceived helpfulness) without expanding your time invested on a daily basis.
  7. Have fun! Be sure to mix up the personal and professional posts, and don’t be afraid to let your personality show. People want to know who YOU are, and social media is a perfect way to help them do that.

I read a fabulous blog by business genius Seth Godin that got me thinking. He asked ‘What room do you give your customers?’ He’s talking about what emotional room, or what experience. Not what service or product, but what experience?

I believe that part of the experience that I give my clients, and everyone who comes in contact with my work is also one of the huge secrets to my success, so I thought I should share it with you so  you can use it.

I’ve created this special tapping video to help you really LIVE this secret to success, and you can see it here – Enjoy!

If you can’t see the video in this ezine, or if you’d like to comment, please watch it on youtube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjA9rl0vAOQ

Coaching has become a world-wide phenomenon now, and many successful people are realizing the benefits of having a coach, whether for business, relationship, or health issues. What you want from a coach may vary, and what you look for in your coach, and in the coaching relationship, will also vary from person to person.

However, one misconception that many people have about coaching is that they should have a coach that they never have any challenges with. I believe in a different model of coaching, one that is more empowering.

When you step up in your business and in your life, and you play bigger, you will usually experience fear and resistance. Issues will come up, sometimes ones that you thought you had dealt with. And perhaps you did deal with them – at the lower level at which you were previously playing.

Now, though, it’s a new game. When you write down your goals, and speak your dreams, and take action to bring them into reality, you’ll get challenged. In fact, if you don’t get challenged you’re probably not playing big enough. You NEED to have someone in your life who pushes you, who calls you to be the best that you can be. For some of you that will be a coach.

Your coach’s job is to get you to step up, to play big. So sometimes, while you’re challenged, it’s easy to dislike your coach. Just think about a sports coach, who tells you ‘You need to run an extra 10 sprints a day to get ready for the next competition.’ You’re not, in that moment, going to love your coach! In moments of clarity, though, you realize that your coach is serving your highest good by holding a vision of you living at your highest potential.

I get emails every day saying how much my work helps people, both clients and people who are simply on my list. And sometimes I get annoyed emails, and I know that I’ve called someone to step into their greatness, and they are struggling with resistance.

It may be a program you’re in, or a book you read, or a coach. But when you find someone or something that challenges you, that occasionally irritates you into being bigger than you thought you could be, it’s OK to get upset (and then use a technique like tapping to clear your upset). But not being challenged is not an option if you’re trying to create the business, and life of your dreams.

So find someone that challenges you, and step into your greatness!

I recently read a business building ezine that was talking about affiliate marketing and joint venture calls. While these can be important parts of building a business – they’ve certainly benefited me – focusing on these things too early on in your business is confusing, misleading, and frankly a waste of time for many solo entrepreneurs.

Even if you’ve been in business for a number of years, if you’re not getting enough clients through the door, and you don’t have a sizable email list, you need to look at steps 1, 2, and 3 of your business.

Step 1 – What do you do for people?
It’s amazing how many transformational entrepreneurs can’t answer this question in 20 words or less.

Step 2 – Who are your clients?
If you way ‘everyone’, you need to focus your target market more. You’ll waste time and money marketing to ‘everyone’.

Step 3 – What is the pain or issue that makes your clients seek you out?
Not what do you provide, not what do they need that they don’t understand until after they work with you, but what do they want, NOW? What’s waking them up at 3am?

Too many solo entrepreneurs are getting carried away hearing about ‘passive income’ and ‘affiliate payments’. Those are steps 33 and 47 in building your business. First, you need to do the work to make sure you have a solid business message and offerings.

But figuring those things out isn’t s*xy, quick-fix, make a zillion tomorrow stuff. So it tends to be skipped, sometimes by marketing gurus who assume that you’ve already done it, and sometimes by transformational entrepreneurs who don’t understand the process of building a business, and how to market it.

First, you need active income. Clients. To get them, you’ll need a clear message.

Second, you need leveraged income, which is a one-to-many model, which means you need to build a tribe of fans.

THEN you can look at the other juicy stuff, because you’ll have people to offer your passive income items to, and you’ll have something worth offering your JV partners.

But you won’t get off the ground without the first 3 steps. So even if it hurts, even if you think ‘I shouldn’t have to do this after being in business for x years,’ do steps 1, 2, and 3. Make sure all your marketing materials are consistent, and reflect the answers to these steps.

Once you do that, congratulations! You’re on your way to real success!

Are you suffering from limiting beliefs that are holding back your business, such as “No one will pay me for what I do”, or “I can’t charge what I should”?

If so, help is here!

I just loved watching this video from this session I did with Helen at my live event, Quantum Leap. Helen’s challenge was the limiting belief ‘No one will pay for what I want to do’ (which is coaching around spiritual issues).

You’ll see her go from not believing it to knowing it’s possible – in less the 10 minutes! It’s slightly edited – the actual time was only 13 minutes. If this is one of your issues, tap along and enjoy.

Tapping video: Actual client session

If you can’t see the video above, or if you’d like to comment, please watch it on youtube at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3FgTOeFgLI

If one of these limiting beliefs is getting in your way, clearing it can be one of the best things that you do for your business. Email me if you’d like support in clearing your issues, and seeing your business take off!

Enjoy!
