Where do your customers come from? How do they find you? Do you find yourself chasing customers, never knowing where the next one will come from?
Website Myth: If I put up a beautiful website with the right keywords, people will flock to it.
Truth: You have to be on the first page of a search engine to even have a chance of people finding you, and that takes time and effort. If you have keywords with a lot of competition, you probably won’t get there.
The good news: There are other ways to get people to find you, and your website.
Lead Generation Strategies
1) Write articles and submit them on the web. There are places to submit articles, both free and for a fee. The article should include some information about you, including your website AND your freebie. If they like the article, people will click the link to your website to find out more about you.
Here’s an example of a good bio at the end of an article:
Susy Jones helps small business owners to make twice the money in half the time. For a copy of her free report ‘The 10 Biggest Mistakes That Cost Small Business Owners $Millions$, go to www.susyjonesbiz.com.
2) Put your testimonial on someone else’s website. If it’s got your name and website, it’s another link back to you.
3) Create a group product or offering by partnering with someone in a related business. For example: a day-long workshop on wellness featuring three different wellness consultants, each of whom works with a different focus such as nutrition, exercise, and stress reduction. Each one promotes to her own list, and attendees are given incentives at the event to get on the other consultants’ lists.
4) Advertising – don’t just put the picture and the name of your business in your ad. Create a headline that speaks to your customer’s pain or problem, and offer them a free gift in return for taking action like calling your or visiting your website.
5) Public speaking – get out and speak to groups that contain those people in your target market.
6) Send a press release – let the media know what you’re doing. Frequently.
7) Attend networking events, but make sure that they are worth your while. Talk to as many people as you can while you’re there (not just your friends!), get their cards and make notes, and follow up with them. Offer to send them something free.
Important: Don’t just sign someone up for your newsletter because you got their card at a networking event. Instead, send them a personal email asking if they’d like to receive information from you.
Important: If you say that you’re going to follow up with someone, do!
Action Step: Don’t try to implement all of these ideas at once. You’ll get overwhelmed and quit. Instead, schedule and commit to learning and implementing one new lead generation strategy per month.
