Knowing how to write attention-grabbing, effective sales copy is an absolutely essential skill. Good sales copywriters will charge you hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to write a single page of sales copy. They aren’t really charging you for writing the copy, though – they are charging you for their time to learn your business well enough to write the copy. You already know your business! So you’re the best person to write your own sales copy, as soon as you learn the sales copy principles.

Here is a step-by-step overview of a sales letter:

1) Attention-grabbing headline
2) Speak to the pain or problem that you will solve
3) Introduce your solution, and the benefits that it provides
4) Give proof in the form of testimonials
5) Tell about the price, comparing it to something reasonably priced
6) Offer additional free bonuses
7) Explain your guarantee – make it risk-free for the customer
8) Create urgency – limited supply, limited time
9) Call to action – tell them exactly what to do to order
10) PS – restate the benefits, guarantee, and encourage action now

This is just an overview. If you’re not used to writing sales letters, this is an area that you’ll want to study more.

I encourage you to write the sales letter in your own ‘voice’, so that it is authentic for you. That being said, if you’re still apologizing for selling to your clients or customers, consider getting some coaching support on your issues with sales. If you’re uncomfortable with selling, and that includes sales letters, you are either worried about being liked, or unsure about your product or service. Either of these situations will cost you success. You may want to examine your beliefs, and if necessary, change them to support your success.
