You know that you need a website, and if you’re reading this course, you probably already have one. There are different kinds of websites, however, and you need to make sure that you have one that accomplishes what you need.

Briefly, the different kinds of websites are as follows:

1) Branding website – this type of website functions as an online brochure, telling about you and your company. Usually several to many pages.
2) Opt-in website – this type of website does only one thing. It offers free information in return for an email address. Usually one short page.
3) Sales page website – this website is designed only to sell a product. Usually one long page, and there should be only one choice on the page – buy or leave.
4) Blog – a website with content that is added to or updated frequently.
5) Membership website – a site which people pay to join in order to benefit from the group.

You may also have multiple websites that fulfill different functions.

Most people think of a business website as being a branding website, and that’s the most common kind. If you have a branding website, you MUST have an opt-in box.

The most important thing on your branding website is your opt-in box. An opt-in box is a place for visitors to enter their name and email address. This is how you create a database of prospects – people who will eventually become clients or customers. Establishing a relationship with your customers, and potential customers, is the most important goal of your branding website!

Website Myth #1 – People will come back to my website when they need me.

Truth: No, they won’t, unless you have the #1 spot on Google, and maybe not even then.
When someone visits your website, they may not be in a position to purchase your services or products at that time. Once they leave, they may never return – unless you capture their contact information, and keep in touch with them.

Action Step: Create a database and an opt-in box, and make it prominent on your website.

A Mailing List/Database

You create your mailing list, or database, using your opt-in box. People sign up because you offer them something of value – a free report or a newsletter subscription. Now let’s talk about why your database is so important.

1) You want to reach people when they are ready to buy from you. This means keeping their attention on you as the solution to their problems. When you have a mailing list, you’re in control of the contacts that you have with your prospects and customers. You’re not waiting for them to contact you. You can also do this through advertising, but it’s far more expensive, and you’re much more limited as to size of your message.

2) It’s easier to sell to people who have already bought from you. Customers who have already made a purchase are far more likely to buy from you again, and they are more likely to purchase your higher-ticket offerings. Remember, we’re here to make success easy! A mailing list enables you to stay in touch with customers and offer them new products, new information, and new incentives to purchase from you.

3) You position yourself as an expert, and as helpful and generous. When you continue to give value to people through an email newsletter, you are the authority in your area, and become known with your prospects for giving great value.
